Dublin and London have been swarming with Australian winemakers this week, all on this side of the world to celebrete Australia day at tastings at Croke Park in Dublin and Guildhall in London. I went along to taste as many as I could with the emphasis on Shiraz, since I'm researching a book on the subject. We'll be tasting 3 wines on the Moncrieff show on Newstalk 106fm from about 3.20pm. First up will be a white to wet the whistle before a couple of Shirazes. Macpherson's Basilisk Marsanne-Viognier 2004 from O'Briens for about €11. Second wine we'll be looking at is Hanging Rock's Cambrian Rise Heathcote Shiraz 2003, which will be sold soon by O'Briens for around €15. Heathcote is one of hippest places to grow Shiraz these days. Last is a more traditional region Mclaren Vale and we'll be tasting Nugan Estate 2003 Mclaren Parish Shiraz, available from SuperValu for about €10.
