Wine of the Week

Martin talks about wine each week on Dublin radio station News Talk 106 FM on a Wednesday after the 3pm news on the Dublin Life show. Each week he features at least one wine and details will appear here. Previous wines of the week can be viewed in the archive.

You can listen live to News Talk 106 FM via their web page.

The New White Whisk(e)y 7th August 2004

Shock Horror. A new generation is discovering flavour. After years of seeking increasingly bland liquids, e.g., Budweiser instead of Guinness or vodka instead of whiskey, a new generation of drinkers appears to be discovering its taste buds.

Vodka sales have grown spectacularly in recent years and while may of those drinking it do so because it doesn’t detract from the flavour of a mix like Red Bull or coke, a Wine Ireland magazine tasting revealed that there are many new vodkas flooding the market that actually deliver some lovely flavours and textures. They are expensive but Martini drinkers will enjoy these much much more than the standard brands.

On the Moncrieff show we’ll be tasting a couple of the favourites from the tasting Rain, an organic corn based vodka from the USA and Grey Goose, the brand that has taken the US by storm.

Both were supplied by the Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dublin.
