Today (12/11/03) on the Dublin Life show on News Talk 106 FM, after the 3pm
news, Martin will be talking about upcoming wine fairs by several
retailers and the chance it offers to taste hundreds of wines at very little
cost.
Christmas is coming and the goose is getting fat and wine retailers
are organizing wine fairs to entice you to make your big Xmas booze buys
with them. The Super Valu stores of North East Dublin including the
excellent Killester and Raheny branches have a wine fair in Clontarf
Castle from 6pm and I hope to be there.
Next week, on the 19th, McCabes have
their annual wine fair at Blackrock Rugby Club (01-288 2037 for details)
and O'Donovan's host the Cork wine fair at Rochestown Park Hotel (021
4264799 for details), while the following week on November 25th at the
Grand in Mahahide, Gibneys host their big bash which is always packed out.
(I'll be giving away 6 tickets to the Gibneys event today on the Dublin
Life show at 3.15pm). I'll be at
three of these events - Supervalu, O'Donovan's and Gibneys and at the last
two I'll be signing copies of Wine Republic 2004 which will be
published on Monday 17th.
So this week's wine is Kim
Crawford Marlborough 2003, €16.99, 89/100 and sold by
O'Donovans, Gibneys and McCabes and can probably be tasted at their wine
fairs where you should note a beguiling mix of gooseberry and citrus
aromas and flavours. It's also just won the trophy for best sauvignon
blanc at one of New Zealand's leading competitions. the Liquorland top 100
show, as well as a gold medal the the Perth Show. It's imported into
Ireland by Liberty wines (+44 2077205350)
