Today (16/7/03) on the Dublin Life show on News Talk 106 FM, after the 3pm
news, Martin will be discussing Southern Italian wines and the great value
they offer. If you're tired of Chardonnay this is a place to investigate.
This week choice as wine of the week is a pair from Dunnes.
A few years ago Southern Italy and the
Islands seemed to be farming subsidies not grapes as they were huge
contributors to the infamous wine lake. But new technology and new
winemakers have transformed their wines. There are just so many
interesting indigenous grapes to work with that a paid up member of the
ABC club would never get bored here. If you're not adventurous you'll even
find merlot, chardonnay and syrah here too that will delight.
This week's choice is a pair from a new
Sicilian range at Dunnes called Inycon and currently on promotion.
Inycon Nero d'Avola 2002, €7.99 and
85/100 is lush with cherry, damson and liquorice plus a touch
of dark chocolate. Just the thing with a barbecue. partner it with the
white Inycon Fiano 2000, €7.99, 85/100 and
rich broad wine with, orange, melon, honey and anis. The offer at the
moment is any 3 bottles from the range which also includes a syrah and a
merlot for €20.
