Cliff R & Olivia NJ Duet Again. Feb 17th 2006

If you are as old as me you may remember Olivia Newton John singing regulalry on Cliff Richard's Show in the 1970s. Today on Moncrieff on NewsTalk 106 FM we have them dueting once again. No, they won't be singing together, they won't even be there, but we'll be tasting wines produced for them in Portugal and Australia respectively.

Any number of stars from the fields of music, film and sport have put their names to wine. Some, like Cliff actually own the vines and others just get together with a well known wine producer to put something out under their label, as Olivia has done.

Cliff Richard's wine is called Vida Nova and it's from the Algarve, where he has a villa. It's a blend of Aragonez, Shiraz, Trincadeira and Alicante Bouschet. The 2004 vintage has even won a bronze at the London Wine Challenge. It's made by highly regarded winemaker David Baverstock. It costs about €15.99 and is available at Mccabes, Jus de Vine, Baileys of Howth and Carpenters in Castleknock. Importers are Classic Drinks of Cork.

Olivia Newton John has had her name on wine bottles for quite some time and is well known for her Koala Blue wines. Her website has her Irish importers as J Donohoe of Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. But now she has released a range of premium varietal wines. We'll be tasting her Olivia  Coonawarra Chardonnay 05 and her Olivia Mclaren Vale Shiraz 04, both made by noted winemaker Gavin Hogg. There's also a Coonawarra Cabernet in the range btw. Don't know prices yet but suspect that they are not cheap, since her website calls them ultra premium. These are not yet imported into Ireland, but if anyone is interested I can help arrange it, so click on contact on the left panel above.
