Wine of the Week

Martin talks about wine each week on Dublin radio station News Talk 106 FM on a Wednesday after the 3pm news on the Dublin Life show. Each week he features at least one wine and details will appear here. Previous wines of the week can be viewed in the archive.

You can listen live to News Talk 106 FM via their web page.

Devilishly Good Wine - 27 August 2003

Today (27/8/03) on the Dublin Life show on News Talk 106 FM, after the 3pm news, Martin will be discussing cider but that doesn't mean we haven't got a wine of the week or two. We have, they're from Tasmania.

I'm tasting samples for the 2004 edition of the Winerepublic annual guide and of the many wines I've gargled this week, one producer that particularly caught my eye was Tamar Ridge from Tasmania. This island drifting off the south coast easily has coolest climate of any wine producing region in Australia. It's positively green and European by comparison to the mainland. Tamar Ridge Unwooded Chardonnay 2001 89/100, €15 - 16.00 is a wonderful OZ meets Chablis style with mineral character and zesty orange and peach fruit while its sibling Tamar Ridge  Riesling 2002 91/100, €17-18.00 has similar mineral character but livelier zesty citrus character and knocks spots off most Alsace Grand Crus. Don't know yet who retails it but importers are TDL (01 413 0100).
